Botswana Federation of the Disabled (BOFOD) seeks to give due attention to influencing policy and practice with a view to primarily promoting disability policy development, implementation and monitoring.
The organisation seeks to give due attention to influencing policy and practice with a view to primarily promoting disability policy development, implementation and monitoring. Strategic and technical support is provided to member DPOs to identify and analyse issues, build constituencies and enhance popular participation in the policy and legislative processes as well as improving administrative practices.
The organisation regularly encourages its member organisations to continually identify and capitalize upon emerging opportunities locally and internationally to influence policy and practice. The organisation makes deliberate efforts to establish and strengthen strategic cooperation with other international organisations to target constituency building, strategic influencing and cross learning for effective contribution to disability development processes and influencing policy / legislation.
Specifically, BOFOD seeks to maintain her membership status with the Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled. The organisation will explore ways and means to establish and strengthen strategic relations with other international development actors and regional bodies with significant influence on disability development.
Where necessary the BOFOD will undertake action research to support advocacy initiatives. The organisation will develop and strengthen good and strategic working relations with research and higher learning institutions both to influence research agenda and to keep abreast of relevant research findings for advocacy.
DPO members are encouraged to document strategic evidences and success stories to support policy engagement and advocacy work. BOFOD will develop and strengthen good working relations with journalist and diverse media houses to enhance its advocacy work.
